THESE pupils in Weston welcomed in the Chinese New Year in style as they dressed up in a variety of traditional Mandarin costumes.

Monday heralded in the year of the dragon, with youngsters at the school dressing in oriental costume and building their own elaborate dragon.

In ancient times the dragon was a symbol reserved for the Chinese emperor, and it is considered to be an extremely auspicious sign.

The ‘new year’ traditionally lasts for 15 days and is the longest and most important of the Chinese holidays. This year is will end on February 6, the date of the next full moon.
