YEAR 12 students from Kings of Wessex Academy visited Cardiff University last week to learn about the latest scientific advancements.

They had a talk about diamonds followed by a lecture on the life and death of stars.

A sixth form boy who sounded like a girl –thanks to a voice-modifying microphone – then gave a talk about sound and noise.

They even touched on quantum physics and the sounds of space.

Throughout it all, there was a paper aeroplane-throwing contest to learn about aerodynamics, with the chance to win a chocolate bar for a direct hit on the speaker.
