LOVE was in the air last week when a father-to-be proposed to his girlfriend in the very school corridor where they first set eyes on each other.

Former Worle Community School students Daniel Woodland and Charlotte Haines first met at the Redwing Drive site in 1999 and dated for a short while.

The pair kept in touch after their lives took different directions, but true love brought them back together 10 years later when they agreed to meet up last December 23.

It was the first time in four years that Daniel, aged 25 and 28 year-old Charlotte had seen each other, but they still felt the same spark that was there during their school days.

On Friday, in the very corridor where they first spotted each other 11 years ago, Daniel got down on one knee and asked Charlotte to be his wife.

Daniel, who grew up in Locking, said: “When I first saw her in that corridor I thought she was the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen.

“I wanted to propose there as it was a prominent place in our lives and it is memorable for us – it’s really special.”

Charlotte, who grew up in Worle, says Daniel persisted in asking her out and she played hard to get when they were at school, before finally saying ‘yes’.

She said: “I said I would think about it – but then, when he was having a bad day after he got told off in maths, I said ‘yes’.

“It’s a good job I didn’t make him wait after he proposed.”

Charlotte, a presentations ranger at Bristol Zoo and administration officer Daniel, are expecting their first child in January and hope to get married next year or in 2012.
