The creations were made by youngsters at Uphill Primary School for the village’s annual scarecrow festival.

The theme this year was heroes and villains – and a multitude of Avengers, Batman characters and even aliens could be seen around the village.

Arguably the most impressive creation was David Dalley’s tribute to the Battle of Britain.

Mr Dalley, of Winguard Road, built a spitfire model suspended in his front garden, surrounded by scarecrow models of veterans.

The residents of Little Orchard also created a tribute to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Reception children right up to year five and six classes all made scarecrows, with year three and four pupils’ Darth Vader chosen as the winner.
