School holds event to fight library closure

PUBLISHED: 20:00 19 January 2011

A SCHOOL near Cheddar is showing its support for the village library by holding a reading session on Friday.

Parents will be invited to Draycott and Rodney Stoke First School between 9 and 10am to read a book with their child.

The session will promote literacy and parents will also be able to sign a petition against Somerset County Council’s proposal to withdraw its funding.

Cathy Lowe, headteacher, said: “We are concerned about the proposed closure of the library as if a child cannot read it is devastating for their life chances.”
