A NORTH Somerset school was placed under lockdown today after two students become ‘agitated and violent’ earlier today (Friday), leaving one parent assaulted.

Worle Community School, in Redwing Drive, said the security procedure had been enacted to ensure the safety of the two students, while a police spokesman said a parent had received ‘minor injuries’ after attending the school.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary are now liaising with the local authority to progress the investigation, the spokesman added, after they were called to the school shortly after 12.30pm.

The students were ‘safely escorted’ from the site, a school spokesman added, before all other pupils were allowed to go on lunch break as usual.

They said: “We apologise for any alarm that was caused, especially to our new year 7 students.

“We trust both they and all of our parents will understand the measures we took were necessary for the safety of the two students concerned and for the orderly running of the school.”
