COINS were donated to a Somerset school as part of a campaign to improve the playground, which has not changed in 10 years.

The fundraising took place on Cheddar First School’s sports day, and pupils, parents, grandparents and carers donated £487.27.

The children used the coins to write the word ‘play’ in their current playground, in Hillfield, Cheddar.

The school’s Friends, Parents and Teachers Association wants to build a new climbing area, adventure trail and train in the playground, as well as picnic tables.

Kelly Davies, who is helping to lead the playground committee, said: “There hasn’t been any investment into the main playground for more than 10 years, and there is currently very little equipment for the children to use.”

The playground is also used by guiding groups and sport clubs and the Cheddar Earlybirds Preschool.
