A Churchill Academy and Sixth Form student has won first prize in a prestigious speaking competition.

Year 12 student Anna Jones took part in the Gabblers Club competition in Bristol, which pits sixth form students against each other in an after-dinner public speaking contest. Anna’s speech, on the subject of signs, was deemed the best out of 17 presentations in total.

Churchill headteacher Dr Barry Wratten said: “It was with delight and pride that I watched Anna gabble her way to victory.

“It is at times a lonely road to prepare and rehearse such a speech, and lonelier still to get up on the podium – but she did it brilliantly.”
