Sports fans get a chance to coach

PUBLISHED: 08:00 25 January 2013

SPORTS leader taster days have been set up in Weston to give aspiring coaches the chance to find out what the role entails.

The taster days, which will be held on February 2 and 27, will be divided into eight sections to give a feel for what coaching involves.

The sessions – running from 10am-4pm at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre - include an introduction to sports leadership, communication, organisational tools, safety in sport and simple activities.

It will also show how people, who must be over 16 to take part, can put this all into practice and what they can do next.

Attendance is free but those interested will need to register with North Somerset Council’s sport and active lifestyles team.

After attending the taster day, people will also have the opportunity to register for the full Prospect Sport programme which includes a level two community sports leader award, first aid, child protection basic awareness and a level one national governing body award.

For more information contact the council’s team on 01275 882732.
