Weston College bought the hotel back in January of this year and work has progressed quickly.

The academy building is offering courses in law and justice services, plus finance and accountancy and professional services, while the former hotel is also set to provide accommodation for around 20 students.

The £2.8million project is now at a stage where the building is open for teaching, and the Starbucks will be open from 8.30am-4pm on weekdays starting on Monday.

A spokesman for the college said: “The Starbucks will be open to students, staff and their guests, plus visitors to the college.”

The college has also announced plans for a further development – this time at the campus in Loxton Road, which is the university campus at the college.

Nearby land next to Bridgwater Road has been leased to the college by North Somerset Council since 2011.

The college is now hoping to build additional sports facilities for the campus.

The council has said these plans include building two additional sports pitches, as well as a training pitch, to enhance students’ overall experience at the university campus.

In order for this to be possible, the college must hold a ‘more secure’ interest in the site.

This has been achieved through a new 35-year lease for a one-off payment of £140,000.

While these plans are in their infancy, the council’s approval of the project will allow the college to start securing funding for the project.
