YOUNG and old at Winscombe Primary School united to do the polka and enjoy a traditional Maypole dance during a Dementia Awareness Week event.

Pupils welcomed representatives of the Alzheimer’s Society into their classroom to teach them about the condition, while a number of older villagers joined in a series of fun events.

Society spokesman Hazel Tillman said: “The event was a great success. More than 15 people attended from our fortnightly memory café, helping us to raise awareness and get people chatting more openly about dementia.

“It was so encouraging to see the older and younger generations dancing together. We hope that we can do more intergenerational work in the future.”
