PUPILS from Broadoak School, Hans Price Academy and Churchill School set sail on their coracles in an effort to help their learning development.

Ten pupils of the different schools were chosen to do it as part of a forest school activity which aims to provide education outside the classroom.

The pupils, aged from 11 to 16, were had to make and sail a coracle, a small wicker boat, in Uphill boat yard.

They had been designing and making the boats in Clarence Park and Wheatfield Nursery in Churchill for several weeks before they climbed in and paddled out last Friday.

Jenny Roth who works on the behaviour improvement programme said: “They all sailed the boats successfully.

“It was a brilliant afternoon and they loved it.

“There was a lot of laughter, smiles and a huge sense of achievement.”
