CHILDREN across North Somerset anxious about moving to secondary school have taken part in an initiative to help them with the transition.
Pupils about to enter Year Seven at Worle Community School have been working with North Somerset Council’s behaviour improvement team (BIP) over the summer to make the move to a new school as painless as possible.
The three-day course saw students work with the team to build up their confidence and body language skills. More help will be available to pupils if and when needed.
The scheme has been extensively used in and around Weston since 2005 and has helped to improve classroom behaviour and attendances. This year it was expanded to Nailsea and Clevedon also.
BIP’s Paula Le-Milliere-Tinney, said: “The feedback from the parents and children over the last few years has been incredible.
“Most of the parents have noticed a difference in their child’s confidence levels, making the transition from primary to secondary school easier.”
Students who completed the course were presented with certificates last week.
