TWO 16-year-olds took a trip to the Philippines to help to build houses for families.

Tom Creswick and James Whitrow, who go to The Kings Of Wessex Academy in Cheddar, raised £4,600 to take part in the Project Abroad initiative.

They raised the money through cake and jumble sales and by washing cars, and hosting quiz nights.

They worked with other volunteers from around the world and learned about brick-laying and carpentry while enduring high temperatures and tropical rainfall.

While there, they also went on a zip-wire on the island of Bohol.

The pair, who are in year 12, gave a talk about their experience at Burnham Baptist Church.
