Teenagers aged under 18 are not eligible to vote in the EU referendum but a group from a Weston school are holding their own debate and vote.

Year 10 students at Hans Price Academy led the campaigns, with Ellie Davies arguing for Britain to leave the EU, and Hattie Smith arguing for the remain camp.

A Question Time-style event was held at the school with a studio audience, which was broadcast live across the academy.

Humanities teacher Sarah Westcott said: “I really wanted to give our students the opportunity to give their opinion on this nationally important and vital issue.

“We feel it is essential that students take part in the process and decision making that people nationwide are undertaking so they are aware of all sides of this debate.”

Students had to register to vote, and a polling station will be open at the school today (Thursday).

An online poll has been set up to see how students’ minds have changed in the run-up to the referendum.
