The first General Election hustings took place in Weston-super-Mare on Wednesday and members of the public put their questions about education to the candidates – and you can watch our videos to see what they had to say.

Conservative candidate John Penrose, Labour’s candidate Tim Taylor, Liberal Democrat Mike Bell and Green candidate Suneil Basu attended the event – which the North Somerset branch of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) hosted. Helen Hims, the UKIP candidate, chose not to attend.

The candidates were quizzed about a number of topics from exams to funding, university fees to housing.

The Mercury was at the event blogging the action as it unfolded.

The next hustings event will be held on May 26, and is being organised by the Weston Mercury and Weston College. It will take place at the Bistro at the college’s Knightstone Campus in Knightstone Road.
