An Uphill school is well on the road to being able to fund a new sports hall after fundraising hits the £37,000 mark.

Westhaven School, in Ellesmere Rd, has been fundraising for a new sports hall for its students. It needs to raise £64,000 for the new facility.

The money they raise only makes up 25 per cent of the final cost however, with staff hoping Sport England’s Inspired Facilities funding will help foot the remainder of the bill.

A spokesman for the school said: “The project started because for many years now the staff and governors have identified the existing facilities are not adequate.

“The pupils deserve the best we can get for them.”

With support from the community, Westhaven has now reached the appeal’s halfway point.

The school first began its appeal for funds in February and has hosted multiple events to raise the all-important money.

Westhaven received £3,000 donation from the Weston Lions’ summer beer festival and a £15,315 grant from the Weston and District Society.

A charity golf event was held at Weston Golf Club on September 29 where a further £3,633 was raised through donations and raffle.

The specialist business and enterprise school cares for students aged seven to 16 years with learning difficulties.
