AN OSCARS-style awards ceremony honouring Weston businesses involved in training Weston College students and employees is being held tonight (Thurs).

The Excellence in Business Training Awards event will be held at the Winter Gardens and recognises partnerships between the college and businesses across North Somerset and beyond to deliver training and generate jobs for young people.

The dinner and awards evening also showcases the apprentices and students who have done particularly well during their training period.

Categories include Business Learner of the Year, Hospitality Employer of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year.

Weston College principal, Dr Paul Phillips, said: “This evening recognises and rewards many successes and achievements obtained as a result of investment in training.

“The variety of training we offer continues to grow and the combination of superb facilities, dedicated staff and robust management ensures we consistently deliver quality learning and development.”

A huge growth in the number of apprenticeships has also been seen at Weston College this year as young people look for alternatives in a tough job market.
