THREE students from Weston College have competed in the WorldSkills competition – with one winning a gold medal.

Charlotte Ludwell, aged 20, earned the gold award, while classmates Paul Marin and Isabelle Brunsdon also took part.

The trio were all assessed on dementia care, learning disability skills, vital signs, knowledge of medical terminology and more.

The college’s health and social care co-ordinator, Sarah-Jane Lewis, said: “The students were a credit to themselves and to the college, and their hard work over the past three months of training shows how they have put theory learned in class into practise.

“It was a wonderful opportunity for them to compete against other well-trained students.”

More than 140 students applied to take part in the competition but only 48 were chosen to take part in six regional heats. Charlotte will now represent the college at the National Skills Competition Finals, which will be held in Birmingham in November.
