The principal of the newly-built Haywood Village Academy says he is ‘tremendously excited’ to meet the pupils later this year.

The primary school is based in Whitney Crescent of Persimmon Homes’ Haywood Village development.

When the school opens in September it will only cater for a reception-age intake, but once full it will house 420 pupils – with two classes per age group.

It will also have 26 nursery spaces.

The site is also home to sports facilities, meeting rooms and changing rooms available for community use outside of regular school hours.

Principal Craig Jones said: “We are tremendously excited about opening the school for our reception children for this September.

“Over the past month we have been involved in preschool visits, working alongside the constructors, making links with community groups such as the Haywood Village Residents’ Association and the children’s centres, recruiting our teaching team and ordering brand new resources.

“As a new team it has been very enjoyable to develop the school’s vision and ethos, which is providing a limitless education offering choice through enriching, meaningful and active opportunities developing lovely people.”

Mr Jones is due to be handed the keys to the school in the next few weeks as the builders wrap up.

He has revealed his vision for future pupils, with three main areas of focus – high aspiration, valuing learning and achievement for all.

The school’s vision statement says: “Aspiring for greatness is a conscious choice. As a school we believe that, in partnership with parents and our community, we can give our children the guidance, opportunities and belief to make conscious choices.

“Their aspiration will be deep-rooted in their values as they aspire to be lovely people: respectful, honest, trustworthy, empathetic and responsible.

“Our children will become enthusiastic and skilful artists, sportspersons, mathematicians, writers, readers, linguists, scientists, musicians, historians and geographers. Our children will be equipped to support and solve local and global challenges, as well as aspire for positive health and wellbeing for themselves and others.”

Haywood Village Academy is part of the Cabot Learning Federation, which contains 15 academies across the South West and includes Hans Price Academy.

The school does have space for more reception children and interested parents can book a meeting to find out more.
