Children from three primary schools who took part in a horticultural competition were invited to the mayor's parlour to receive their certificates.

The youngsters from Castle Batch and St Martin’s Primary Schools in Worle, and Ashcombe Primary School in Weston-super-Mare, took part in a plant a wheelbarrow competition for Weston Horticultural Society’s flower show.

They received their certificates and trophies from Weston Mayor Jos Holder at the town council’s base in Grove House, in Grove Park, last week.

They were also treated to a guided tour of the mayor’s parlour where they were shown various artefacts relating to the town’s history and had fun dressing up as the mayor and sitting at her desk.

The horticultural society enjoyed its most successful show in years this summer, as
it had more than 550 entries including a number from schoolchildren.
