A sports centre at a Weston-super-Mare school wants to build a new all-weather football pitch after North Somerset Council transferred control to the school’s parent body.

Hans Price Academy is in line to receive the new sports field after the council’s executive members voted to relinquish control of the sports centre to the Cabot Learning Federation, which operates the school.

A council report said it made the decision ‘to ensure the future provision and sustainability of a community asset while reducing the council’s liability’.

A federation statement said: “The sports facilities at Hans Price Academy, formerly run by Parkwood Leisure, are in the process of being transferred to the Cabot Learning Federation.

“The final part of the process is underway and the facilities will now be called the Hans Price Sports Centre.

“We are initiating a programme of works and the project will see a brand new all-weather surface installed and other facilities within the academy become available for rent in due course.”

Principal Tony Searle added: “This is a fantastic opportunity to build our links with the community.

“We are excited about the ongoing developments at Hans Price Academy and the new all-weather pitch will provide a great facility for our students and the local community alike.”
