Year 11 students of Worle Community School (WCSA) joined their teachers and parents, with many going on to colleges to undertake their A-levels in September.

Iris Mayne and Jessica Loveridge both achieved nine grade 9s and eight grade 9s respectively, a feat which only 800 schools achieved nationally.

Iris now plans to do A-levels in maths, further maths, chemistry and physics, while Jessica will study A-levels at Weston College in further maths, English literature and French.

Overall, 13 per cent of students achieved grades 9-7, a four per cent drop from last year, while 44 per cent scored grades 9-5 and 67 per cent had grades 9-4, down from 71 per cent in 2018.

Headteacher Jacqui Scott told the Mercury: "We are delighted, we've got loads of happy and smiling students and record numbers leaving with a grade 4 in English and maths, which will give them huge opportunities to go onto college and pick up the courses they want to do, follow their A-levels and continue with their dreams in education.

"Two of our students got clean sweeps of nine and eight grade 9s, which is phenomenal.

"We're absolutely delighted with the way our students have done and it's a huge thanks to our teaching staff who have worked tirelessly over the past year to give our students the best opportunities, a great education, and it all comes together today with fantastic results."
