Students from Worle Community School were rewarded for their achievements both inside and out of the classroom.

Youngsters enjoyed a celebration evening at Weston’s Grand Pier on October 15, with prizes handed out for music, sport, performing arts and helping the community.

Nigel Dando, a journalist of 48 years and brother to Jill, was guest speaker and presenter on the night.

He presented The Jill Dando News Centre journalist of the year award to year nine student Olivia Finch, who is
editor of the student newspaper, which published its first edition in September.

Principal Jacqui Scott said: “It has been a fantastic year and we wanted to celebrate each and every student who has done amazing things across a range of areas.

“We are academically very strong and we also
see it as vitally important to reward achievement in extra-curricular activities.”
