Worle Community School has recorded its best GCSE results in many years, with jubilant students finding out their grades today (Thursday).
In total, 17 per cent of students achieved the top 7-9 grades, equivalent to A* to A, while 71 per cent scored 9-4, which would have been A* to C under the old system.
Altogether, 56 per cent of students achieved five GCSEs graded 9-4, including English and maths.
And across the school, 43 per cent of students achieved at least one top 9-7 grade.
Principal Jacqui Scott said: “Our students have excelled as we expected them to do and we are very proud of every single one of them.
“We are a happy, community school and regularly tell our students that they can achieve incredible things.
“We are not complacent but we intent to celebrate with all of the students and their families and carers. Many thanks to the whole community for their support.”
Among those to achieve the most grade 8s and 9s were Tom Derrick and Olivia Simmonds with seven each.
Student Josh Clay said: “I am thrilled with these results. I have had five fabulous years at WCSA and want to thank all the brilliant staff for helping me achieve my grades. I am now starting an apprenticeship with Great Western Railway.”
