A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy who is tipped to be the next Jamie Oliver has scooped 500 after entering a pudding contest.

Euan MacDonald, from Wrington, beat off stiff competition from 300 youngsters nationwide to be crowned Simpsons Centenary Sponge Pudding runner-up in a final-three cook-off in front of a celebrity panel of judges in Manchester.

The talented Wrington Primary School pupil wowed the panel, which included Ruth Clemens, finalist in the BBC’s hit show The Great British Bake Off, with his Honey Mountain creation.

The competition was part of several events organised by Simpsons of Manchester to celebrate 100 years of manufacturing foods – most famously the iconic goblin meat puddings.

The firm invited children aged between five and 16 from across the country to submit their designs for a limited edition centenary sponge pudding.

Wrington Primary School headteacher, Sarah Joskey, said: “We are absolutely delighted with Euan’s achievement in the Simpsons design your own pudding competition. We are very proud of him and are hoping that one day he can become the next Jamie Oliver.

“Perhaps Euan’s accomplishments can inspire us to start our own cookery club at the school.

“We will be marking his success at a special celebration service and we may even produce a special cookery book next year, with Euan’s recipe as one of the centrepieces.”

The winner of the competition pipped Euan to the post with a chocolate orange pudding.

The pudding project manager, Mathew Simpson, said: “Hats off to Euan for his fantastic pudding which is too delicious for words.

“The judges had a very tough decision to make and the final scores were very, very close.”
