ERIC the eight stone tortoise is just one of the animals who will be on display at animal rescue charity Secret World Wildlife Rescue’s latest open days on Saturday and Sunday.

The centre in New Road, East Huntspill, will host its Spines and Shells two-day event to teach visitors about hedgehogs and tortoises.

The event comes after the charity celebrated welcoming 3,500 people through its doors at its annual Healing Weekend, which saw more than 180 exhibitors showcasing the best in holistic therapies, art and the environment.

A Secret World spokesman said: “We will have Eric as well as other tortoises on display at the Spines and Shells event but it will also focus on hedgehogs, which are sadly in decline.”

The event runs from 10am-4pm on both days. Entry is free, but donations are requested.
