A RARE steam bus has arrived in Weston-super-Mare to become a new attraction in the town this summer.

Bus operator Crosville has bought the 77-year-old Elizabeth steam bus.

It has been a popular tourist attraction in Whitby in Yorkshire since 2004 after being transformed from a steam wagon to a bus.

It is the only working steam bus in Europe.

Crosville drivers will take part in a training programme so they are able to drive the 30-seater bus.

Crosville staff were the first passengers to enjoy the bus, as it travelled along Weston’s seafront.

The vehicle will be used on select days from August.

Managing director Jon Jones-Pratt told the Mercury in June: “It’s a special thing and it has a big following – more than I anticipated.”
