Entertainment retailer set for Weston

WESTON residents starved of choice in records and films can celebrate as an entertainment retailer is set to open in the town centre tomorrow.
Head will open in the Sovereign Shopping Centre in the unit formerly occupied by HMV.
It will become the first entertainment retailer to set up in Weston since HMV left the unit on January 22 after a temporary residence over Christmas.
The store, which will offer a range of up to 6,000 CDs and roughly the same amount of DVDs, as well as vinyl records, clothing and books, will employ eight full-time staff.
The independent retailer, created by music entertainment specialist Les Whitfield, currently has five stores across the UK, including one in Bristol, while its store in Belfast recently won an award for being the best independent store in Ireland.
Nick Cooke, centre manager of the Sovereign Shopping Centre, said “We are delighted that Head have chosen to open in Weston which for too long has missed a dedicated music retailer.
“The opening of the Head store will go along way in addressing this and deliver some of what customers in the town really want”.
Mr Whitfield, who has run his own entertainment businesses since 1994, said: “This is a great opportunity for us to set up shop in Weston as there currently isn’t a record shop in the shopping centre.
“We have lots of separate lines we buy, and because we are independent this means we can operate freely and buy what we want – you won’t just see the same albums and films in the store.
“We try to cater for people who get excited about films and music, and we’re excited about starting our new store in Weston.”
