More GP appointments to become available in Somerset

Patients in Somerset will soon be able to book GP appointments until 8pm at night, thanks to a new Government scheme.
Practices across the county are adopting new opening hours, with weekend appointments also becoming available.
This comes after the Government promised to improve primary care access back in 2015 and will see Somerset’s 71 GP surgeries all extend their last appointment time from 6.30pm to 8pm.
For weekend appointments health staff provide the same service as in the week.
However, weekend and evening appointments must be booked by calling your GP surgery between 8am and 6.30pm Monday to Friday.
GP Dr Ed Ford, chairman of Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group said: “Extending the availability of appointments should be a significant change for those who find it difficult to attend appointments during the day.”
