VOLUNTEERS at Worle Community Centre have been warned the building will be 'plagued by evil spirits' if plans to start occult classes there go ahead

VOLUNTEERS at Worle Community Centre have been warned the building will be 'plagued by evil spirits' if plans to start occult classes there go ahead.Congregations at churches in the area have been praying for the committee members and numerous letters have been sent calling for the course to be cancelled. The classes will start at the centre in Lawrence Road on October 2. Occultist Scott Jones will run discussion groups and courses looking at the study and ritual uses of Satanism, meditation, witchcraft and tarot.Despite the controversy caused by the course, centre chairman Joan Thompson says there have been a lot of middle-aged women signing up to take part.Mrs Thompson said: "Some people have even been to the Charity Commission to see if the course can be cancelled but we have been told we would be breaking the law if we discriminated against people for their beliefs."We're getting letters from all sorts of people calling for us to cancel the booking but we could be sued if we did that and it is actually proving to be quite popular."Councillor Roz Willis, who represents the area on North Somerset Council, said: "It's not fair people are writing to the centre. People should stop having a go and realise there is nothing that can be done as it would be discrimination."The first session is free but Mr Jones has warned he does not want 'kids, time wasters or wannabe vampires'.Mr Jones said: "This course is pure theory and has no practical element to it."People have been writing about sticking pins in dolls and stuff and that has never once been mentioned."I have run six courses in Coventry and never had any problems like this. Right now I'm mightily ashamed of the way members of the general public are acting.
