Extra CCTV for estate?

AN extra CCTV camera on a Weston estate is the top item on a wish list made by the town’s south ward police team

Officers hope the equipment will be installed around Baildon Road on the Bournville following the launch of Operation Justify.

Police have started a 12-month campaign to reduce the amount of thefts on the estate after it was revealed 10 per cent of all burglaries within North Somerset happen on the Bournville.

Officers, along with NSHousing and North Somerset Council carried out a ‘visual assessment’ of the area last week, in which they looked at ways to prevent burglaries.

Sergeant Colin Batchelor said the organisations have made a list of changes they would like brought in on the estate, but it will depend on funding.

He said: “In an ideal world we would make all of these changes but we have got to look at our finances and see what we can afford.”

The police have also visited scrap yards and second-hand shops to offer advice about receiving ‘over the counter’ goods, and will soon be speaking to repeat victims to educate them on keeping their properties safe.
