A CHEDDAR cyclist is devastated he had to give up his epic journey from John O'Groats to Land's End 15 miles from the finish line after he fell off his bike.Grant Floyd fractured four ribs, bruised his lung and suffered cuts and bruises when he fell near Penzance. The 40-year-old was rushed to Truro Hospital and had to catch the train back to his home in Cheddar. But Grant, who lives on The Draycott Park Estate, has vowed to travel down to Cornwall and complete the course by reaching Land's End.He said: "I was gutted as I was so close to the end and it was my last day on the road."It had rained the day before and it hadn't rained at all on the trip down from Scotland."I was cycling under trees and went over some slime. I flew off and the bike went up in the air and came down on me. The bike was pretty heavy as it had our bags and equipment on from the journey."I broke some ribs, but managed to get to a GP surgery and the doctor sent me to a hospital in Truro. They thought it was more serious than I did and said I had to give up and rest."I work in Devon part of the time, so I plan to complete the last 15 miles soon. Some people have said I should start again, but I think I'll just finish the last stretch."The route is 875 miles long and Grant was on his ninth day when he had the accident. The drug company salesman did the ride to help collect cash for an outdoor classroom and play equipment at Cheddar First School. His son Frank is in year one at the school. The school is accepting donations for Grant's ride and has collected sponsorship already.
