A FAMILY gathering in Banwell attracted more than 100 people, who came from as far as China and Australia.

A total of 120 members of the enormous Rice family turned up for the reunion at Banwell Castle on Sunday.

The event was organised by Tony Richards, who set the event up following the death of his mother Phyllis. He said: “My mother would always talk about her family, but I never got the chance to meet many of them. After she died I researched the family tree and found I had a very large local family.

“I set up the event so everyone could meet each other, it was great.”

The oldest member of the family present was 96 years old, while the youngest was born only a few months ago.

The Rice family name is prominent in Weston and surrounding villages, including Banwell.
