A baby ward in the new children's wing at Weston General Hospital is to be named after Axentis Michael.A charitable trust has been set up in memory of the popular Weston hotelier to raise money for local charities.The Axentis Michael Charitable Trust has already raised £50,000 for Weston Super Kids Appeal to improve children's facilities at Weston General Hospital.The room that holds four cots in the new children's wing will be named after Axentis.Kerry Michael said: "Two years ago we held our first ball in memory of my father and raised £108,000."We split this between Weston Hospicecare, the organisation that cared for my father before he passed away, and St Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church, which he founded and was heavily involved with throughout his life."The trust's first event will be a Memorial Ball on November 18 at the Winter Gardens.The event will have a traditional Greek theme with a band, dancing and food from the country.An auction that includes a Harley Davidson motorcycle, a jet ski and a luxury cruise on a yacht in the Mediterranean will be on offer.The auction at the 2004 ball was hosted by Lord Jeffery Archer.* Pictured: Mrs Nitsa Michael, widow of Axentis, with her children Michelle and Kerry and grandson Alex Demetriou, Mark Gritten, hospital chief executive, Tom Baker, Weston Super Kids Appeal co-ordinator and Kath Roberts, divisional manager for Children's, Young People and Maternity Services.
