Part of the street gave way in St Nicholas Road at the weekend, drawing crowds to the area.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service and Avon and Somerset Constabulary were called to the scene on Saturday.

North Somerset Council was also called out to assess the sinkhole.

One family was temporarily evacuated from their home and the road was closed for three hours while emergency services inspected the hole.

A council spokesman said: "An area officer was called to inspect the sinkhole over the weekend.

"An emergency order was raised to excavate and back fill the hole to make it safe.

"The situation will be monitored by the local area officer."

Sinkholes are becoming more prevalent in the UK due to changes in ground conditions.
