A Weston-super-Mare residents’ group held its first community games event for people living in one of the town’s newest developments.

Haywood Village Residents’ Association (HVRA) staged the event on The Runway off Locking Moor Road and it featured a bouncy castle, sports and games.

The association funded the event thanks to a £1,000 grant from housebuilder Persimmon Homes, which is behind the 2,500-home Haywood Village.

The HVRA joined forces with the West of England Sport Trust and social housing provider Knightstone Housing to organise the event, which aimed to encourage families to become more active.

Spokesman for the HVRA Dave Robson said: “We felt it was something that would appeal to people of all ages, regardless of their standard of sporting talent, and it is something we are keen to continue for years to come.”
