The family of a woman who fell off her horse and cart and sustained traumatic brain injuries in Weston-super-Mare has thanked the emergency services for their quick response.

The Mercury reported on Monday that a woman was airlifted to hospital following the accident in Bleadon Hill near Ferncourt Farm.

She has now been named as Maria Carpenter, aged 43, and her brother Jason Belcher issued the following statement.

He said: “As a result of the accident Maria has sustained traumatic brain injuries and is in an induced coma but the family have been advised she is currently critical but stable.

“We would like to thank everyone for their well wishes and will pass on your messages of support we have received both personally and via social media.

“But we would ask that you give the family time to come to terms with what has happened with what will be a long recovery process.

“As a family we would also like to thank the emergency services for their prompt response including the air ambulance who took her to hospital.”
