Three generations of a Weston family set off on a marathon around Weston this morning (Wednesday) to raise money for Weston Hospicecare in memory of Jeanette Eastman, who died of cancer almost three years ago.

Marcus Eastman, who is in his 80s, his son Steve, aged 56, and his grandson Garry, aged 30, are raising money for the charity to say thank you for the support it gave to Marcus’ wife Jeanette.

The trio set off from the hospice in Uphill at 7.40am and they will be travelling 26 miles around the town, stopping at various venues along the way which hold special memories for the family.

Steve and Garry will be pushing Marcus in a wheelchair and some of the venues they will be stopping at include Weston Football Club, Worle Century Club, The Commodore Hotel and Nashley House, in Montpelier, where staff are putting on a party for residents and supporters.

The family is hoping to raise £3,000 from the event by holding numerous activities along the way including parties and raffles.

Marcus and Steve have put on a number of parties, car boot sales, skittle matches and events for the hospice over the past couple of years and have raised almost £7,000 in memory of Jeanette so far.

Marcus, who was recently named Community Champion for his fundraising efforts, is inviting people to them on the last five miles back to the hospice, calling at the Grand Pier.
