A TRIBUTE to a well-known pub enthusiast has been unveiled on Weston's seafront after he died last year.

Phil Oxendale, a long term shareholder and frequenter of Wetherspoon pubs and a member of CAMRA, died on June 14 2011 after a battle with progressive Alzheimer’s disease.

His family has unveiled a bench outside the new Cabot Court Hotel pub in Weston as a tribute to Mr Oxendale, who was a frequent visitor to Weston from his home in Walsall.

His son, David, said: “I wanted a memorial that would fit his character.

“He loved the sea and the countryside in this part of Somerset, so the words: ‘A pie, a pint, a view’. We will always remember you’ on his bench, capture everything that dad loved.”
