A CHANCE conversation about children's television on Weston's Sunshine Hospital Radio has led to worldwide interest that has thrust the charity into the international spotlight.
Producer Andrew Read tracked down the original stars of the 1970s Southern Television adaptation of Enid Blyton’s Famous Five and brought them together for their first group interview in more than 30 years.
The resulting programme, Famous Five Reunited, was made available from the station’s website and has been downloaded in countries like New Zealand, Russia and Trinidad and Tobago.
Marcus Harris (Julian), Gary Russell (Dick) and Jennifer Thanisch (Anne) were joined in West London by BAFTA winner and original series writer Gail Renard for the exclusive recording.
Marcus Harris said: “The opportunity to meet together, relive and share memories of what was a very special time in our lives was one we just couldn’t miss, and the programme produced by Sunshine Hospital Radio really captured the essence of the fun that we had.”
The programme was the most logistically complex that the radio station has ever produced.
