The walls at Weston Hospicecare have been made a little brighter after students from Westhaven School donated paintings to the charity.

The year nine students produced their own interpretations of Bristol artist Alex Lucas’ Animal Playing Cards and visited the hospice to present their pictures to staff.

Pupils at the school, which is located opposite the hospice’s grounds in Thornbury Road, Uphill, are learning about the hospice and are raising money to support deputy headteacher Jamie Peacock, who is running the Virgin London Marathon in April.

Students will be taking part in a sponsored mini-marathon on March 24 to boost Mr Peacock’s fundraising and will run, jog or walk one-tenth of the marathon distance. Their route will start and finish at the school and will include a marshalled route along part of Uphill beach, and everyone who completes the marathon will be presented with a certificate and a medal.

Hospicecare fundraiser Kelsey Dehaney said: “The artwork the students have produced is fantastic and really brightens up our reception area.

“It was great to have the students come to visit us to learn more about how the hospice cares for people with life-limiting illnesses and we are really looking forward to cheering everyone on when they take part in their very own mini-marathon.”
