Crews from Avon and Somerset Fire and Rescue were called to the scene at 6.20am.

Bristol Road was closed to traffic in both directions from the Queensway junction to the Bristol Road junction while crews tackled the blaze.

Firefighters remained on site until 12.20pm.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “Sometimes the safest and best way of dealing with a fire is to prevent it spreading and let it burn itself out.

“It is sometimes too difficult to send someone in so we just contain it.”

Avon and Somerset police are now appealing for witnesses as it is believed the fire was started deliberately.
