DWINDLING numbers of volunteers are threatening to kill off vital village groups in a North Somerset community. The number of volunteers in organisations in Yatton is falling and members who are keeping the groups alive are ageing. The village hall committee is desperately appealing for people to come forward to help run it and also help fund-raise for vital work to take place on it.There are worries if village groups were to disband, the sense of community would be lost. There are also fears that when planned housing developments are built they will turn into 'commuter communities', separate from the rest of village. As Faith Moulin was voted in Yatton Parish Council chairman at a recent meeting, she outlined her vision of making sure the council pulled the community back together over the coming year. She said: "I think the parish council is facing an unprecedented year of hard work with many issues coming up in the parish."We are facing great changes with many of our voluntary organisations including the village hall, the youth club, Yatton Carers and the lunch club."These are all needing volunteers and all of the people in them are getting older."It is very hard to find young people with the energy and time to put into these things. There is quite a lot of people who commute who are out of our community and we have got quite a job to do to build community spirit and get people more involved."For more details on how to join village groups contact parish clerk Xanne Blythe on 01934 838150.
