Feast of fun at harvest home

HUNDREDS of people packed into a marquee in East Brent to enjoy the village’s harvest home event this week.
More than 400 people in total came along for the festivities on Friday at the oldest harvest home event in the country, which has been running annually since 1857.
The traditional festivities begun with a religious service in the marquee, following on with lunch and a pudding procession, followed by entertainment throughout the day including a performance from the Burtle Silver Band, a children’s sports tournament and fairground rides.
The harvest home celebration was originally held for farmers to enjoy the end of the annual harvest, stopping only for the two World Wars and in 2001, when there was a national foot and mouth disease outbreak.
