THOUSANDS of pounds raised by thirsty beer lovers was given out to several village clubs.

A total of £6,000 was raised at Claverham Beer Festival this summer and Mike Payne from the Yeo Valley Lions handed over the cheques at a presentation.

Yatton Youth Club, the junior and mini RFCs, Yatton and Claverham scouts, cubs, guides and brownies all received donations as well as the Claverham Friday Club.

This was the eighth festival, supported by more than 40 sponsors, and revellers enjoyed 35 of the best beers within a 35-mile radius of Claverham.

Next year’s festival will take place from July 1-3 and the committee is working on a new and ‘particularly interesting’ theme that they hope to announce later this year.
