Festival of archaeology is very much alive in Cheddar

THIS year's theme for Cheddar Caves and Gorge festival of archaeology is stayling alive in the Stone Age.

It will run throughout the school holidays with hands-on activities, demonstrations by hunter gatherers in costume, and events for children at the Cheddar Man Museum of Prehistory.

A trained team will be showing the public flint knapping, fire lighting, spear and arrow making, trapping, wickerwork, skin preperation, face painting and camouflage.

There will also be displays of pewter smelting, and how to make pottery thumb pots.

The festival will begin on July 16 and will continue everyday from 10am-4pm until August 26.
