THE Weston super Food Festival is just over a week away, but the build-up begins this weekend with the start of the Festival Fortnight.

A variety of special food-themed events and offers will be available across the town from tomorrow until September 29.

From art and exhibitions to music and comedy, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy.

Festival organiser Sally Packer said: “The last few weeks in the run-up to a festival are always very hectic and it’s a huge amount of work to pull everything together, but things are looking great and we’re confident the whole festival will put Weston well and truly on the foodie map.”

Local artists will be exhibiting their celebration of food with A Feast For The Eyes at Weston Arts Gallery in Locking Road.

And Weston Museum in Burlington Street will launch an exhibition on the history of local food on Tuesday.

On display will be lost and forgotten recipes and delicacies, as well as some nasty dinners best not remembered.

September 19 is all about film and poetry with a special screening of the Mexican film Like Water For Chocolate at Loves Café in West Street and a food-themed poetry evening called It’s All About Food, hosted by Weston Poets at Weston Arts Gallery.

Over the festival weekend, an evening of swing music, humour and food can be enjoyed with The Swinging Rascals at Loves on September 21.

And the following day the same venue plays host to singer Kat Eaton with a post-festival supper and drink.

On September 25 is Pun In The Oven, an evening of food-related comedy at the Vineyard Bar in the Winter Gardens with funny baker Albert Smith, supported by Alan Holloway and Matt Hurman.

There are also some great money-saving offers in restaurants and cafés across town, with 10 per cent discounts and special offer menus available.
