A Weston councillor says she is 'thrilled' after it was announced faster broadband is now available in one of the town's housing developments.

Ward councillor Sarah Codling has been fighting for change as parts of Weston Village suffered with broadband speeds of just five megabits per second, when the UK average is 23 megabits per second.

The plans to change this were supposed to be introduced by internet provider BT back in March, but it was delayed.

However, upgrades have now been made which means BT can now take orders for fibre broadband, with speeds of up to 33 megabits per second.

Cllr Codling told the Mercury she is very grateful so many residents got in touch about the issue.

She added: “I am thrilled that those of us who live in Weston Village can all now get fibre broadband. We have shown a real strength in numbers and our persistence has finally paid off.”
