A LOVING young father is lying brain damaged in hospital following a fight in Weston town centre.Lee Goodwin, aged 36, was attacked by a group of men in Bar Shallus in Regent Street. He had been refused a drink, became involved in a fight and was set upon by three or four men while on the ground.Mr Goodwin, father to a 10-year-old girl, was taken to hospital with what appeared to be minor facial injuries, but is now unconscious, brain damaged and in a critical condition. The family of the unemployed man from Grasmere Drive on the Bournville estate has been at his bedside since the incident, which happened at about 9.30pm on June 11.His sister Sian, of Brue Close, said: "We are shocked about what's happened. Lee is not a violent man at all."We don't know how bad his brain damage is and won't know until he is conscious again. We could be caring for him for the rest of his life."We discovered what had happened through Lee's brother, Gary. He's a taxi driver and had heard about the trouble at Bar Shallus. "He had a stroke of brotherly instinct. Gary knew Lee was going out that night and went to his flat. He didn't find Lee there and knew something was wrong."He went to hospital and they said they had someone, but could not identify him. They took Gary to see Lee, but he was unrecognisable to his own brother because he was in such a bad condition. Gary only recognised him from a Bristol City Football Club tattoo on his arm."Lee is a devoted father to his 10-year-old little girl Lydia, who goes to Christ Church Primary School."He's a lovely, kind natured young man who lives life to the full. He is a well-known character who knows an awful lot of people on the estate, round town and in the bars.""He's sport mad and would have been in his element during the World Cup."We are a close family. When one of us hurts, we all hurt. When one is happy we are all happy. Our loyalty for each other is unquestioned."Our mother has just lost her husband, our stepfather, and now she's been told her son has brain damage."The hospital staff have been absolutely wonderful. He's had the best care."Police want to hear from anyone inside or outside Bar Shallus on the night. Two men have been arrested and released on police bail.
